Wigan U3A

from 0 ratings
We have a launch meeting scheduled for 15th November at the Edge, Southgate, (Pottery Road) in Wigan at 10am. The University of the Third Age is an international group, which provides opportunities for people to make new friends and take part in new interests. It is described in Wikipedia thus: The University of the Third Age is an international movement whose aims are the education and stimulation of mainly retired members of the community—those in their third 'age' of life. It is commonly referred to as U3A. In short it’s a meeting place for retired and semi-retired gentlefolk. There is no pressure to get involved in anything and members are invited to come along and share company. This is one of the things that I like about it, getting lonely people out of the house, doing something, meeting people, going along to a monthly talk or simply having a cup of coffee. Subs are low and U3As around have thirty interest groups, from crown green bowling to games, drama to singing, Kaluki to French, walking to history and a pudding club for bakers. It’s easy to make friends and enjoy the monthly meetings where one can meet them and have a catch-up. It also helps the well-being of the retired or semi retired. We’re trying to get the Wigan U3A going and are hoping for a big splash to let the people of Wigan know our intention and the timing of the launch meeting. I know there are a lot of post war baby boomers itching to get involved in something like this. Everyone is welcome to come along to the launch meeting. UPDATE: Promotion of the event is going well and a lot of agencies have been informed. The people of Wigan are responding very well and we're looking for a good turnout.
